Udupi police achieved a major breakthrough by tracing the body of a missing person. On 21/05/2006 Udupi police received a complaint from Mr. Gopi that his father P.P.Jagannathan had gone missing from 20/05/06. P.P.Jagannathan was a goldsmith from Salem in Tamilnadu. He used to do business with the local jewellery shops. Following the complaint, Udupi police suspected that P.P.Jagannathan might have been murdered for gain. After prolonged and sternous investigation for those nine months, police were able to arrest Ganesh Baktha, a local jeweler. He confessed killing P.P.Jagannathan by giving him cool drinks mixed with cyanide. Later he also showed the place where he had buried the dead body. His brother Vasanth Bakth also helped him in executing the murder. The body was exhumed today in the presence of revenue officials and sent for forensic examination. Vasanth Bakth is still absconding and intensive search is on to nab him. Udupi police chief Dr. A.Subramanyeswara Rao, IPS, has congratulated the police team lead by Sri Vishwanath, Circle Inspector of Police is detecting the case.
