Hithendra murder case solved

Within 48 hrs of the murder of a journalist of Udupi, Shri Hithendra Prasad in Manipal, the Manipal police along with the DCIB Team picked up four suspects from Indrali (Udupi) Railway station this morning at about 7.30 AM while trying to catch a train towards Mumbai. On questioning the four suspects they confessed to have comitted the murder of Hitendra Prasad.

It is now clear that these four accused belong to the gang of one rowdy sheeter of Udupi by name Pitti Nagesha, and were actually employed by the later to execute the murder. On 21st of Aug, two futile attempts were made during the day while Hithendra Prasad was covering the Visit of KPCC President Sri Mallikarjuna Kharge to Udupi. But because of the police presence the attempts failed. At about 9.30 PM the same evening, Pitti Nagesh received an information that Hithendra Prasad was at Thaloor's bar, and immediately Nagesh dispatched his team to execute the murder. After having watched the movements of Hithendra, the assailants waited for the right moment and when he was found alone., Salim and Dinesh , two of the four accused struck Hithendra with sharp weapons on his head. The victim immediately collapsed. It is further disclosed in the confession that soon after the act, a few persons who had gathered at the gate of the Bar in an arguement also rushed to the spot and were witnesses to the incident. Soon after, the four of them fled from the scene and after having thrown the weapons used, in a gutter in Indiranagar, they left Udupi.
The police team investigating the case were after the gang of Pitti Nagesh the same night the incident took place as Nagesh was an old rival of Hithendra and surprisingly enough all the gang members were absconding from the town. As the clues got stronger by the day, the team received an information this morning that four of the gang members were trying to escape to Mumbai, when they were apprehended at the Railway station. The main conspirer Pitti Nagesh is still absconding and the team is at the task. More information is likely to be disclosed after his arrest.
The names of the apprehended persons are as follows.,
1. Salim @ Manchi Salim 25 yrs, s/o Ahmad Bawa r/o Manchikere, Alevoor Road, Dudlipadavu, Udupi Dt.
2. Dinesh @ Mimmi 28 yrs, s/o Thammu Sherigaar, r/o 2B/176, 7th cross, Indiranagar, Udupi

Ore Laden Trucks cleared peacefully

After it was decided in a meeting convened by the District-in-Charge minister for Udupi on the 3rd of Aug, to let the Ore laden trucks stranded at the district border to pass through as a one time concession, about 1200 trucks yesterday on 03-08-2006 night were allowed to cross the district in small batches of 10's and by about 3.00AM almost all the rucks were cleared. It may be recalled that last week in the KDP Meeting at the Dy. Comissioners's office, it was decided to stop all Ore laden trucks from entering the district in veiw of the bad road and bridge conditions and an order to the effect was also passed by the Dy. Comissioner Udupi. The order came into effect from sunday the 30th of July and about 1200 vehicles were stranded at the border of Udupi district when they were prevented entry. The stalemate continued for 4 days, when finally a meeting comprising of all the District Officials, MLA's, Truck Owners Association, Consumers Forum was convened by the District-in-Charge Minister for Udupi at the Dy. Comissioners's office on the 3rd of Aug, where., after an assurance was received from the truck owners that they would not resort to overloading henceforth and also set up a Weigh Bridge at the district border to get their trucks weighed before entering the district, it was decided to allow the stranded trucks to pass through the district as a one time measure. It was also decided that fresh entry to trucks would be given only after setting up of the weigh bridge. Proper Police bandobasth was made along the national highway 17, from Shiroor border to Padubidiri to make sure that these trucks pass through without any untoward incident, especially in view of the roumors that certain organisations were still not happy with the decision of allowing the trucks inside the district.
