Two police officers of Udupi district have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry on the eve of 60th Independence Day celebrations. Sri Guruprasad, Reserve Sub Inspector of DAR, Udupi & Sri M.C. Jose, Armed Police Constable of DAR, Udupi have been awarded with the gallantry medal for their brave act and role played in a naxal encounter at Devarabalu under Shankarnarayan PS limits. On 23/06/2005, while the District Anti Naxal Squad was on a combing operation at Devarabalu a group of naxalites opened fire on the police combing party and in self-protection and to protect their police party, RSI Sri Guruprasad and APC Sri M.C. Jose who were in the party returned fire. Thereby resulting in the death of two naxalites namely Ajith Kusubi and Umesh.

APC Jose .M.C.is honored with the presidents Gallantry award is a matter to be proud of. Risking his life he encounterd the naxalites. Then how is that the police department transferred him from his dedicated and brave service.
Jose M.C. is honored by the nation. His home town police officials honored him with transfer, is it just? to avail his better service retain his post.
