Sumati Kotian 41yrs W/o Prabhakar Yeshudas Kotian R/o Palli village, Karkalla taluk, Udupi district was taken to Abu Dhabi to work as a maid at the home of Deepak and Saritha Lewis (who also incidentally belong to Udupi) in May 2006 and was told that she had to take care of the newborn twins of her employer.
Since the day Sumati Kotian landed in Abu Dhabi she alleges that she was tortured and humiliated by her employers at the slightest pretext. She was not allowed to contact her family members nor her family members able to contact her. Her torture and humiliation increased after August 2006 and she was being beaten several times. For simple mistakes they would torture her with a hot iron by placing it over her right fore arm and hot tava over left fore arm regarding which the complainant carries burnt scar marks all over her body. She was beaten with stick and also kicked over private parts by Deepak Lewis and Saritha Lewis. She was forced to sleep in balcony of the house during cold nights of December that too without any blanket. For eight months she worked there and was paid only Rs- 6000/- somewhere in August 2006 after that she was not paid anything. Mean while many times she requested her employers to send her back to India but they told her that they had spent rupees two lakhs for her visa and other formalities, so she had to repay that amount if she had to leave. She was beaten so brutally that she noe suffers a fracture of the left shoulder, infected wound over right shoulder, injured fingers of right hand, burnt scars on right and left fore arms and injury marks on the back. At last when she was so weak because of starvation and torture she was sent back to India. While coming to India she was threatened that if she will complain to Police or anybody else they will kill her husband and son. She landed at Mumbai International AirPort on 9th Feb. 2007 and there after she was hospitalized at Cooper hospital and later on shifted to Holly Spirit hospital. She was hospitalized for two months for treatment of above mentioned injuries.
On her complaint a case has been registered at Karkala Town P.S. in crime No. 57/07 U/s 323, 324, 326, 342, 354, 355, 367, 504, 506 r/w 34 IPC and case is under investigation.

Requesting justice for Sumathi Kotian
Hope Sumathi Kotian got justice. It seems the couple that tortured her are relocating to the US.
FIR should be lodged,justice should prevail.Atleast 10 lakh compansation
Sould be sought.
