Mr. Jayaprakash Shetty, the victim who was killed by the supari killers by the Devaraja Dasa and Srinivasa Dasa on the supari given by one Subramanya Udupa of Kodlady.
On 13/10/06 as part of the plan Devaraja & Srinivasa Dasa called the deceased Jayaprakash to Harlehaklu under the pretext of sandal wood stealing. Accordingly Mr. Jayaprakash reached Harlehaklu at 23:00 hrs in his bike, at that spot Devaraja was holding a gun and told to Jayaprakash that it is for the hunting purpose & both the culprits started their journey as pillion riders. At around 23:45 hrs Devaraja Dasa being the pillion rider shoot at the rider Jayaprakash who succumbed on the spot due to the gun shot. The culprits threw the dead body into the Moodubage river by tying a stone with the help of one Mahesh Poojary.
Earlier a missing case was registered at Shankarnarayana P.S on the complainant given by Smt. Amitha Shetty wife of the deceased, when the bike of the deceased was found under suspicious circumstances. Acting on the tip received by the Police team headed by Sri, Valentine D’ Souza, CPI, Kundapura, comprising the staff & PSI’s of Kundapura & Shankaranarayana PS all the four culprits i.e Devaraja Dasa, Srinivasa Dasa, Subramanya Udupa & Mahesh Poojary are arrested an a Murder case is registered on the complainant given by Sitharama Shetty elder braother of the deceased and is under investigation. It is learnt that the motive behind the crime is the old enmity between the arrested culprits & the deceased.
