Protest rally against Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant concludes peacefully

On 26/07/2006 at 11:15 hrs. a protest rally against Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant was held at Ajjarkadu Maidhan Udupi under the coordination of D.K. District Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha(R.) Uchila Udupi, Karnataka Karavali Sampradayika Nada Doni Meenugarara Okkuta and Nandikuru Janajagrathi Samithi. Smt. Manorama Madhwaraj, MP, Udupi, Sri. Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, Udupi, Sri. Lalaji R. Mendan, MLA, Kaup, Sri. Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ex. MP, Udupi, Sri. Vasanth V. Saliyan, Ex. Minister, Sri. Pramod Muthalik, Sanchalaka, Rastriya Hindu Sene, Smt. Sheela Shetty, State President, BJP Mahila Morcha, Sri. Pramod Madhwaraj, President, DK District Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Sri. Balakrishna Shetty, Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, Sri. Sharath Guddekopla, President, Karavali Sampradayika Nada Doni Meenugarara Okkuta, Sri. M.A. Gafoor, President District Congress, Udupi , attended the protest rally. The rally opposed the Nagarjuna power project at Nandikoor near Padubidiri alleging coal based power plants not being environment friendly. Approximately 4,000 villagers of the surrounding areas of the Nandikoor participated in the rally. The rally concluded peacefully at about 1.30 PM and adequate police bundobasth was made to prevent any untoward incidents and also for the traffic management.
