Case of Dowry death in Brahmavar

On 25/07/2006, One Smt. Poornima W/o Jayantha, Kenjoor village committed suicide by jumping into the well leaving her 2 years old female baby. In the year 2003 she was married to one Mr. Jayantha of Kenjoor village and it is alleged that an amount Rs. 60,000/- and 10 Sovereign gold was given to the groom as dowry during the time of marriage. later Mr. Jayantha and her mother in law Smt. Parvathi started demanding more dowry. At the same time it is alleged that Mr. Jayantha had an illegal relationship with another girl. Unable to bear this mental torture Smt. Poornima when she came to her mother’s house, she repeatedly told her mother that she would commit suicide. On 25/07/06 she finally resorted to the act. In this regard a case of dowry death has been registered against the accused Jayantha and Smt. Parvathi in Brahmavar PS Cr. No. 87/06 U/s 304 (b) r/w 34 IPC and 3 & 4 Dowry Prohibition Act on the complaint of Smt. Radha, mother of the victim and investigation under progress.
