Dowry Death reported in Kota

On 28/09/2006, One Smt. Amritha Shedthi W/o Shantharama Shetty, Yadadi Mathyadi village, Kundapura committed suicide by jumping into the well. 6 years back, she was married to Mr. Shantharama Shetty of Yadadi Mathyadi village and it is alleged that an amount Rs. 5,25,000/- was given to the groom as dowry during the time of marriage. Later Mr. Shantharama started demanding Rupees 2 more lakh as dowry. Unable to bear this mental torture Smt. Amritha Shedthi, when she phoned to her mother’s house, she repeatedly told to them that she would commit suicide. On 28/09/06 she finally resorted to the act. In this regard a case of dowry death has been registered against the accused Shantharama Shetty in Kota PS Cr. No. 169/06 U/s 498 (A), 304 (b) IPC on the complaint of Sri. G.Shantharama Shetty, elder brother of the victim and investigation under progress.
