Major road accident - 6 persons killed at Nagoor, Byndoor

On 18/05/2008 at about 14:20 hrs, near Nagoor masjid, NH 17, Kirimanjeshwara village, in a head on collision between lorry bearing registration No. MH 11 AL 6834 and Maruthi Omni bearing registration KA 30 M 1790, 6 inmates of the car succumbed on the spot to the injuries and 4 other got injuries. The lorry was plying towards Bhatkal from Mangalore and the car was plying towards Dharmastala from Honnavar. This was happened due to the rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver Ramesh Srikrishna Yadav (30) s/o Srikrishna Yadav, near Hajri Darga, Goutham Nagar, Wagle Estate, Thana West, Maharastra State. Total 10 devotees including a driver were traveling from Hirehithlu, Javalli post, Honnavar Taluk, UK District to visit Sri Kshetra Dharmastala in a maruthi car. Out of 10 devotees, 6 of them namely 1) Savithri, 30 years, 2) Reshma, 13 years, 3) Subraya Ganapaiah Naik, 36 years, 4) Govinda Gowda, 29 years, the driver of the Maruthi Omni, 5) Mahadeva, 40 years, and 6) Raghavendra, 13 years died on the spot to the injuries. The remaining 4 devotees namely 1) Laxmi, 36 years, 2) Yogeesh, 7 years, 3) Shankara, 25 years and 4) Ravi, 14 years sustained grevious injuries and all of them were immediately shifted to Chinmayee Hospital, Kundapura by Byndoor police for treatment and all are said to be out of danger. All the 6 dead bodies were kept at Primary Health Centre, Byndoor. In this connection a case in Cr. No. 104/08 U/s 279, 338, 304 (a) IPC is registered at Byndoor police station against the lorry driver based on the complaint lodged by Sri Balachandra, 42 years, S/o V.K.Babu Raj, Ambagilu, Uppunda village. The accused driver has been arrested and investigation is on.
